Coastory Terms of Service

Last updated: 2026-08-19

1. Who this is with

These Terms are between you and Lauren Leppert, doing business as Velocicoder ("Velocicoder", "we"), the maker of Coastory. By using Coastory you agree to them. Our Privacy Policy explains what we do with your data and is part of the deal.

2. What Coastory is

Coastory is a roller coaster tracking app for enthusiasts: you log the coasters you've ridden, rate and tag them, keep the photos and stories from your park days, and — if you choose — create an Account to keep a cloud copy of your history and bring it to a new phone.

Coastory is under active development. We add, change, and sometimes remove features as the product evolves, and especially in early releases and beta things may change, break, or look unfinished. We'll do our best to say so when something significant changes. If we ever discontinue something you paid for, we'll tell you in advance and either provide something equivalent or refund the unused part — we won't take money for a feature and then quietly remove it.

3. Accounts

You don't need an Account for the core app. If you create one:

You're responsible for what happens under your Account. We may suspend or close an Account that breaks these Terms.

4. Your content

Everything you record in Coastory — ride history, ratings, notes, tags, photos, stories — is yours. We don't claim ownership of it.

To run the features you use, you allow us to store, copy, transmit, and display your content only as needed to sync it, back it up, and restore it to you, and to keep the service secure. That's the whole permission. It ends when you delete the content, apart from the short backup lag described in the Privacy Policy. Your photos never reach our servers, so this permission never covers them.

If you share something from Coastory (a photo, your profile card, a backup file), you're choosing to share it with whoever you send it to. Please only record and share content you have the right to.

5. Don't break the service

Don't try to access another rider's data, disrupt the app or our servers, or send false or automated reports through "Report an Issue." Don't bulk-scrape the catalog or the app in ways the law doesn't permit.

6. The catalog, and what Coastory isn't

Coastory ships with a catalog of parks and coasters we compile from public sources. We work to keep it accurate but can't promise it's complete or error-free; you can always record your own version in your collection, which catalog changes never overwrite, and you can report an issue.

Park, ride, manufacturer, and operator names belong to their owners. Coastory uses them to identify what you rode and isn't affiliated with or endorsed by any park, manufacturer, or operator unless it says so.

Coastory is a personal log. It doesn't operate rides, assess their safety, or tell you whether to ride; ratings and notes are riders' own opinions.

7. Backups are yours to keep

Your photos exist only on your phone, and the optional cloud copy holds your records, not your photos. If a phone is lost, damaged, reset, or stolen, what wasn't backed up is gone — use Back up now regularly and keep the file somewhere other than the phone.

8. No warranty; limit on liability

COASTORY IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

TO THE EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, WE AREN'T LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST DATA, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO USE) COASTORY, AND OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS TOGETHER IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF WHAT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE OR US $50. These limits don't apply to liability for personal injury, for our gross negligence, willful misconduct, or fraud, or to anything the law says can't be limited; where a place doesn't allow some of these limits, they apply only as far as the law allows.

9. Price

Coastory is free, and there's nothing to buy in the app. If that ever changes, we'll say so clearly before asking you for anything.

10. Ending things

You can stop using Coastory any time and delete your Account and data as the Privacy Policy describes. We may suspend or end your access if you break these Terms; we'll warn you first except in serious cases (like trying to reach another rider's data).

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as Coastory evolves. For material changes we'll update the date above and, where practical, tell you in the app. Using Coastory after a change means you accept it.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and any dispute about them will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Ohio.
